Workplan
The SCARBOn project started in January 2024 and is expected to achieve its objectives by June 2026, all under the coordination of Airbus Defence and Space (France). Project complex activities are segmented into 9 work packages (WPs) and their progress is continously reported to the HADEA granting authority, with about 30 research reports (deliverables) to be submitted.
SCARBOn workplan include all actions that will be implemented to reach project objectives to design a constellation of small satellites able to track greenhouse gases emmissions of CO2 and CH4 around the Earth. Project activities involve creating precise definition of system requirements and architecture, advanced development and adaptation of key instruments of NanoCarb and SPEXone, and integration of these instruments with the satellite constellation. The project also covers launch of the airborne campaign and its data exploitation. Project results dissemination, and public outreach will be ensured simultaneously. Specific parts of the workplan - work packages - are led by a dedicated consortium member, responsible for their accomplishment.
Project Management and CoordinationAirbus Defence and Space SAS
To ensure the technical coherence of project outputs, efficient communication within the consortium, well-functioning risk management, and internal control and reporting towards the HADEA.
NanoCarb-S Space InstrumentONERA
To define technical and operational requirements, and to develop a complete NanoCarb-S (space) system architecture for the satellite constellation.
NanoCarb-S Space Instrument Proof of ConceptCNRS
To validate the concept of the NanoCarb-S (space) instrument through performance assessments and specifications, ensuring its optimization and viability.
NanoCarb-P Airborne Prototyping and DemonstrationUGA
To develop a prototype - NanoCarb-P instrument and demonstrate the airborne version of the NanoCarb-P (prototype) instrument, including its integration and testing in flight conditions.
NanoCarb-P Airborne Data ExploitationDLR
To process and analyze data gathered from airborne NanoCarb-P (prototype), aiming to measure emissions accurately and evaluate the effectiveness of the measurement approach.
SPEXone Instrument Accommodation and PerformancesAirbus Netherlands B.V.
To oversee the proper integration of the SPEXone instrument into the satellite platform, concentrating on its placement and assessing its performance.
SCARBOn Constellation SystemAirbus Defence and Space SAS
To consolidate the architecture of the SCARBOn constellation system, focusing on the industrialization and series production preparation of the instruments involved.
Communication, Dissemination and ExploitationGG
To communicate the project′s activities and results effectively, ensuring that key stakeholders are engaged and that project outputs are disseminated and exploited efficiently.
Study consolidation and conclusionAirbus Defence and Space SAS
To consolidate the study findings and propose a roadmap for future developments, summarizing the outcomes of the SCARBOn project and its implications for an operational system.
